Civil Serveants to block ministers media interviews
The Liberal Democrats Conservative coalition is to put an Islamic style Niqab on their ‘Transparency’ promise, by blocking ministers’s media interviews
A Whitehall Chinese whisper going round indicating that political advisers, in all departments, have actively advised civil servants to avoid contacts with the media or encourage requests for interviews with broadcasters. It means civil servants can no longer make ‘judgment calls’ when a media broadcast requests an interview with a minister.
The grey suited wise-men (and women for sake of Lib-Dems pushed PC) of the new coalition have told civil servants, handling media requests that ministers have far more important things to do and tasks to execute than ‘ filling the airwave,’ to explain their policies to the public.
Even the most straight forward and mandarin interview request is to be ignored or turned down, since the minister has no slots in his/her diary for such pastime inherited from the previous regime.
Is this really what the Lib-Con coalition’s policy of transparency, accountability and engaging the public?
Let us hope it is just a rumour…. , to quote a one Del Boy.
